Description:

The photo depicts two boys in uniforms with short jersey trousers, playing musical instruments. One of them is holding an accordion in his hands and the other one a violin. The boys are standing on the stairs and there is wooden door behind them. According to the photo’s owner, it depicts a performance of school pupils during the celebrations of the beginning of the school year in the liberated homeland on 1 September 1945. Polish folk melodies are played by: Józef (…) – accordion and Eugeniusz (…) – violin. The Primary School in Kokoszyce, Rybnik district, Katowice voivodeship ; 1st September 1945, Kokoszyce, com. Pszów ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
