The photograph shows five women on the banks of the river doing laundry. Women are dressed in thick clothes, have scarves tied on their heads, long boots on their feet and in hands are holding washed clothes or a soap. On the shore lay battle-dores. On the bottom of the photo there is an inscription in German: Russische Weiber [Russian (i. e. Ukrainian) women] ; According to the owner of the photo it presents a typical example of washing clothes in the river by rural women. Textiles after washing by the battle-dores are rinsed and put down on battle-dores ; the period of 1st World War, around Rivne (Volhynia, now Ukraine) ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village).
