The photo depicts a very large group of people (some of them in folk costumes, some in military uniforms) posing outside a big building. According to the photo’s owner, it depicts residents of the Rychnów parish in the former Gubernia Kaliska region. The photo was taken during the ceremony of blessing and opening of the “Village Hall” founded as a memorial of the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald. It is evidenced by numbers 1410 and 1910 placed on the front wall of the building. This date survived on the building until 1943 when the Germans got rid of it during building works. The “Village Hall” stands on the church land. It was declared an ecclesiastical property and adapted as a cemetery chapel (priests did not agree to the restoration of historic dates on the front wall) ; July 1911, Rychnów, voiv. kaliskie ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
