The photo presents a young woman sitting on a stool outside and a few-years-old, dark-haired girl. The woman is dressed in a tidy, humble, dark dress with a white insert. It’s worthy of notice of the fact that the woman is wearing a wedding ring on the middle finger of her left hand [in Poland customarily on a ring finger of a right hand]. The girl is wearing a white dress, a bead necklace and a ribbon in her hair. In the background a tapestry is suspended ; According to the owner, the photo shows her mother Genowefa and her grandmother Julia. Her mother was 5-years-old back then. The photo was taken for her mother’s father, who in September 1937 went to work in France. When the war broke out, he was summoned into the army; then, he was captured by the Germans. As he didn’t know his daughter, he asked for her photo ; It was taken in August 1943 by Franciszek (...) from Sikorzyce. ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
