The photo depicts military celebrations held in a town square. In the foreground there are two men – soldiers. One of them, a senior officer, is dressed in a military coat and a four-cornered military hat. He is decorating a soldier standing in front of him. Next to them there is a small table and another soldier with a piece of paper in his hands. There are military distinctions laid out on the table. There are many people gathered around the square – both soldiers and civilians, including numerous children. According to the photo’s owner, it was taken in October 1945 and depicts him being decorated with the „Cross of Valour” by general (...). After the end of military actions on the front line, the 8th Infantry Division was located in the following places, in order to fight the UPA troops [the Ukrainian Insurgent Army] in Bieszczady mountains: the Division’s staff in Krosno, the photo’s owner’s unit – near Sanok, Lesko, Jasło and Baligród ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village).
