The "Paleobotanical Collections" available here constitute, at the time being, a very small part of the collections gathered in Polish institutions related to the history (on a geological scale) of the plant world. Besides (sub)fossil materials from excavations, there is also a carpological collection - fragments, that are most often preserved in a fossil state (seeds, hard fruits, fragments of shoots), but collected from contemporary plants. Providing material for comparison and thus helping correct identification of real fossils, it is an invaluable part of the palaeobotanist’s toolbox.
