Description:

The photo depicts two young men in dark suits and white shirts with ties standing in an open space and posing for the photo. According to its owner, the photo depicts two bachelors – sons of part-time farmers /w orkers from Kokoszyce standing under spruces in front of the castle in Graf Rufert’s park in Kokoszyce. They are dressed in festive Sunday outfits. They are wearing suits made of a fabric in the same colour as their waistcoats, with fastened pocket watch chains. Ties are decorated with silk flowers and pins. White shirts have stiff detachable collars. It was a custom to wear small garden flowers in lapels of jackets. This custom disappeared in the 1930s ; August, 24th, 1918, Kokoszyce ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
