The photo depicts two women posing for a photo in a stylish interior (a stylized photographic studio?). Both women are elegantly dressed. One of them is sitting in a high chair with her hand leaning against a table and is holding a book on her knees. She is wearing a long dress with a patterned top. The other woman is standing behind her. She is wearing a long dark dress and a string of light-coloured beads tied in a knot. At the back of the photo there is an inscription saying: “Katarzyna (…) and Helena (…) an organist’s maid in Stary Zamość. Year 1916”. According to its owner, the photo depicts two friends, residents of Stary Zamość ; 1916, Stary Zamość ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village).
