Description:

The photo is a family portrait: a woman and a man sitting in chairs are surrounded by five children of all ages: four boys and one girl. The photo was taken in winter; snow and naked trees can be seen in the background. Despite it being wintertime, the family is dressed in light clothes, without overcoats: the man and boys are wearing jackets and the woman is wearing a chequered blouse. According to the photo’s owner, it depicts the family (…) before the front went through Kaszuby [the Kashubia region]. The photo was taken by the local photographer Brunon (…) ; January 1945, Kosowo (com. Przodkowo, voiv. gdańskie) ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
