The tutorial deals with the problem of tuning industrial PID controller given overshoot and settling time. Plants typical for process · control and DC servos are considered. Controller settings are computed by means of root locus and frequency methods. Analytical expressions are derived for same simple models employed by selftuning controllers. A number of numerical examples for illustration of design cases is presented.
