Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Aneurysma. Arteriae carotis et haemorrhagia nervi optici. Autopsy examination of 44-year-old patient was performed. Histopathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on paraffin sections stained with hematoxylin-eosin, orcein and Van Gieson's stain.Specimen number 1 showed a large aneurysm. Its wall was of unequal thickness from very thin to considerably thickened. The layer structure was blurred. In some places significant retrograde changes with delamination were seen. Muscle fibers were profusely overgrown with connective tissue and lack of an elastic membrane. Specimen number 2 revealed a hemorrhage in the optic nerve, a few small perivascular petechiae around it and very discrete symptomatic infiltration of several cells.
