Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Leasie goneralisata celularum motorius medullae spinalis et trunci cerebri. Werding-Hoffmann Disease. Autopsy examination of 6-month-old baby was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained by Hematoxylin-eosin and Cresyl violet stain.Lesions were observed primarily in the medulla, in which significant loss of the anterior horn chambers was visible. The remaining ones were pale or shrunken. At the level of the lower thoracic or lumbar spine an abnormal shape of the middle canal was noticed. In the brainstem, damage of motor cells /XII,ambiguus/ was seen, but other cell types were relatively well preserved. In the cerebral cortex and basal ganglia general cellular damage was observed. However, the coexistence of putrefactive process makes evaluation of these lesions impossible.Histological diagnosis:
