Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Haemorrhagia secundaria in regione nucleorum basalium hemispheri sinistri. Autopsy examination of 59-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, Cresyl violet, Heidenhain, Holzer and Van Gieson's method.A hemorrhagic focus involving the lateral thalamus and internal capsule was seen in the area of the basal nucleus on the left side. The surrounding tissue showed loosened structure, slight stimulation of micro and macroglia, and significant widening of the perivascular spaces. Quite numerous macrophages were observed around the hemorrhagic focus. Neurocytes of the thalamus and basal nuclei demonstrated features of severe disease; minor changes were seen in neurocytes of the cortex. In the remaining slices, apart from congestion, widening of perivascular spaces, single images of severe neuronal disease and relatively small arteriosclerotic changes, no changes were found.
