Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia. Atheromatosis. Status lacunaris. Autopsy examination of 73-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections and cryosections stained with H-E, cresyl-violet, orcein, Holzer, Bielschowsky, Perdrau and Van Gieson's method.A focus of diffuse necrosis was observed in the frontal lobe. Diffuse vacuolation was observed in the cortex. In the basal ganglia, several big lacunae were seen by the middle-caliber vessels and extensive thinning of the tissue at the capillaries was observed. Small perivascular hemorrhage was present in one pyramid. Single senile plaques were visible.
