Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Fibrosis meninguum. Reactio intracerebralis para - infectiosa. Arteriosclerosis maioris gradus. Autopsy examination of 66-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Cresyl-violet, Griedleys and Van Gieson's method.Significant connective tissue proliferation was evident at the convexities of the ganglia, in the grooves, and at the base of the trunk, with a predominance of collagen fibers over argentophilic fibers. Islets of proliferating endothelial cells were present in some areas. Small perivascular lymphocytic infiltrates were observed in the brain tissue. The arrangement of the glia indicated coexisting white matter edema. The amount of subdural glia was increased. The intracerebral vessels had fibrously altered walls with abundant proliferation in the appendage. Large meningeal vessels were less altered. The whole picture may be interpreted as a syndrome accompanying an inflammatory process /spondylitis tbc/ occurring in an extracerebral focus.
