Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Polyganglio - radiculitis. Autopsy examination of 51-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, Cresyl-violet, Heidenhain, Holzer, Bojan and Van Gieson's method.Significant radiculopathy was observed - the fibers were disarranged, fragmented and of uneven thickness. Few lymphocytic infiltrations were present in the connective tissue sheaths of the radicles. In the ganglia, cell damage / tigrolysis, pigment accumulation/ or even empty cavities at the site of their complete disintegration were visible. Amphicyte and fibroblast proliferation and lymphocyte-like cell clusters between ganglion cells were observed. Radicles and medullary edema and slight edema in the brainstem were observed. Cellular atrophy was observed also in the anterior horns. Olivary bodies cells showed features of fatty degeneration. Fibrous lesions primarily involved the meningeal and medullary vessels.Histological diagnosis: Polyganglio - radiculitis
