Description:

Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia.Autopsy examination of 56-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method. In the cortex, a focus of malacia in the stage of disintegration by macrophages was evident. In contrast, the basal ganglia showed no evidence of necrosis apart from thinning of the tissue, associated with edema and vascular sinuses. Larger circular tissue defects appear to be technical artifacts.
