Description:

Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Encephalitis lymphocyria - reactio parainfectiosa ?Autopsy examination of 3,5-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain frozen sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin.There was generalized edema over the cortex and white matter; prominent congestion of the vascular system, including the capillary network; uniform thickening of the glium, extensive throughout the white matter. Sparse lymphocytic infiltrates, which appeared to be growing, were observed at few vessels. Perivascular hemorrhages were present. Cellular changes in the cortex were difficult to evaluate due to edematous dissolution of the tissue. The picture is consistent with "fulminant" lymphocytic encephalitides, probably an expression of neuroallergic reaction in the course of infectious toxicoses. An enhanced inflammatory reaction was observed in the cerebellum.
