Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Aneurysm.Autopsy examination of 67-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, cresyl-violet and van Gieson method. The specimens showed a blood vessel with atheromatically degenerated walls and an elastic membrane present only unilaterally. Giant hypertrophy of collagenous fibrous tissue was observed within the medial membrane. The intimal layer was degenerated and the epithelium was invisible. The vessel wall in one place gradually lost its layered arrangement, transforming into a sac-shaped protrusion, of fibrous, connective tissue structure.
