Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Status lacunaris nucleorum basalium - haemorrhagia secundaria.Autopsy examination of 73-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson staining method. The basal ganglia, mainly the nucleus caudatus were destroyed by extensive sinusoids, transforming the tissue in areas into a system of reticular cysts. The putamen showed secondary hemorrhagic effusion, infiltrating into the spongiotically thinned underlying tissue.
