Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalcia cerebri recens par rubra. Haemorrhagia subarrahnoideal. Autopsy examination of 54-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method. In the cortex of the middle gyrus and the superior gyrus of the left frontal lobe, there was a fresh focus of malacia. Circular hemorrhages, hemorrhages by diapedesis, neuronal loss locally obliterating the layered structure of the cortex, vascular stimulation, the presence of small thrombi, and abundant symptomatic infiltrates, mainly of lymphocyte-like cells, were clearly visible. Images of cellular pathologies /chronic, ischemic disorders/ were observed in adjacent gyri. The white matter in locally showed a spongiform character. Activation and proliferation of glial was evident. The vessels showed vitreous-fibrous changes. In the meninges, blood and infiltrates of lymphocyte-like cells and macrophages with hemosiderin were present.
