Application of different cell culture systems for multiplying of FMD virus
Committee on Biotechnology PAS ; Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry PAS
The development of the techniques of animal cells cultivation in vitro and their application to studieson FMD virus, laboratory diagnostics and vaccine production were presented. During 35 years since first attempts of virus propagation in monolayers of calf kidney cells with the use of roller bottles, unlimited number of cells have been obtained. Satisfactory results were possible owing to the progress in fermentor construction, material engineering and the use of microcarriers. The list of references as well as our remarks concerning the application of different cell systems to investigations on FMD virus were presented. We found out that primary and continuous cell lines can beused. The course of cell infection and the characteristics of cytopatic effect were described.
