Abstrakt:

This article is dedicated to the person of Professor Henryk Borek, his academic legacy, pedagogical andorganizational activity.Professor was born in Silesia, which was always very close to his heart. He studied in a Germanschool and perhaps that is why he chose Polish philology as his degree at the Jagiellonian University inCracow. After graduating he worked in Wyższa Szkoła Pedagogiczna in Opole for thirty years, wherehe created the fundamentals of Silesian linguistics under the leadership of Prof. Stanisław Rospond. Hismain fields of interest were onomastics and the history of the Polish language, including the issue of Silesia. He was an author and co-author of several books, he edited onomastic dictionaries and hundredsof dissertations, articles, reviews and works intended for a general readership. His publications werehighly respected and widely read. He was an initiator and a creator of many important projects and teamworks. He had remarkable organizational skills, social ease and was active in various spheres.The article presents his biography, professional career, research projects, teaching and organizationalwork.What he left behind is a scientific work of a great significance to Polish linguistics. H. Borek publishedin Polish, German, Russian and Czech. He was also a member of national and international associations,committees and commissions.
