Description:

Muscle segment examination in light microscopy

Abstract:

A 66-year-old patient with suspected myopathy was examined. A biopsy of quadriceps sinister was performed. In some parts of the biopsy the structure of the contractile apparatus was preserved, however, significant changes in mitochondria were observed, including complete loss of mitochondrial cristae. Some fat droplets were visible (Fig. 1,2,3). Dystrophic myofibers characterized by accumulation of cell nuclei in the center of the fiber were seen (Fig 4,5,6). In some parts of analyzed specimen we observed abundant fibrous tissue between muscle fibers. Numerous fat droplets were seen (Fig 7,8).
