This paper discusses the results of a fractographic investigation of ancient pottery. The project was undertaken in cooperation with archeologists from the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IAE PAN) with the objective of applying methods for characterising structure and properties commonly used in materials science and engineering to the study of ancient pottery
