Abstract:

The paper presents results of a mineralogical and chemical examination of the content of archaeological pottery from different historic periods. It also carries a presentation of techniques used for the study and identification of substances once filling a pottery vessel. One practical suggestion to excavators is that pottery found during excavations should not be cleaned before it is sampled for any remains still adhering to the inside walls
