Description:

Muscle segment examination in light & electon microscopy

Abstract:

An 41-year-old patient with suspected metabolic myopathy was examined. A biopsy of quadriceps sinister was performed. Light microscopy analysis revealed unchanged structure of majority of muscle fibres. Fibres were separated by excessive connective and fat tissue. Electronmicroscopy analysis revealed unchanged muscle fibres and enlarged, swollen mitochondria. Mitochondrial cristae were disrupted. In some muscle fibres light mitochondrial matrix and partial or complete lack of mitochondrial cristae were observed.
