Abstract:

The author presents results of studies on herb layer production and organic fall in four associations on "The Wild Apple-Tree Island" (Masurian Lake District), A large number of comparative analyses are made and the commoner regularities determined. These refer to relations between frequency and density, production and density, division of production among species etc. The paper forms one of the series of studies on herb layer productivity in the more important low land associations of Poland carried out by the Institute of Ecology, Polish Academy of Sciences, under the lntemational Biological Programme.
