Description:

Nieświszcze, Cynomys ludovicianus (Ord, 1817), występują licznie na preriach amerykańskich na wschód od Gór Skalistych, od południowej Kanady aż po Meksyk. Na pastwiskach mogą one konkurować z bydłem domowym, ponieważ odżywiają się tymi samymi roślinami. Na 20 dorastających nieświszczach, w ciągu trzech miesięcy wykonano 4 kolejne serie doświadczeń żywieniowych, z których każda trwała 15-18 dni. Zwierzęta trzymano dwójkami w klatkach metabolicznych, karmiono je standardową paszą (Tabela 1), określano dokładnie konsumpcję i fekalia.
