Abstract:

Biosynthesis of bacterial cellulose and its potential applications are presented. The mechanism of cellulose biosynthesis in Acetobacter xylinum, the regulatory pathways and the polymerstructure are described. Some biotechnological aspects of polysaccharide production and industrially valuable features of bacterial cellulose are also discussed.
