The authors observed two patients with congestive heart failure admitted to the I Surgical Clinic because of peritonitis. They were operated on with the diagnosis of embolization of the superior mesenteric artery. At laparotomy necrosis of a segment of intestine was found. The superior mesent ric artery and its branches were normally pulsating. / lutopsy no emboli or thrombosis of the mesenteric arteries or veins were found. The conclusion was that necrosis of the intestine was caused by congestive heart failure with blood pressure drop and consequent intestinal ischemia.
