The article concerns verbal fluency in dementia in the course of Alzheimer’s disease. The test describedallows one to detect dysfunctions within linguistic processes, semantic memory or dysfunction of executivefunctions already present in the early stages of the disease, when no attention is paid to the dysfunction oflanguage functions. The article compares the results of verbal fluency tests in selected categories of propernouns and common nouns, and determines the effect of the Alzheimer’s disease stage on the test result.Comparison of the test group results with various degrees of dementia indicates a progressive decrease inverbal fluency, adequately to the degree of dementia, regardless of the type of task. The experiment showsdifferent profiles of verbal tasks in terms of common nouns and proper nouns.
