Species composition and distribution of seeds in soil of the Tilio-Carpineturn ecosystem have been investigated during two vegetation seasons. The seed bank has a similar number of species as the plant cover. But the diaspores of many herb larer components are not included in the bank. Seeds of early succession stages are the most abundant in the seed bank. The seed bank is relatively small, similarly as in other stabilized forest ecosystems. The contribution of particular species of herbaceous plants to the bank is quite constant from year to year; about 2/3 of seeds are in the top soil layer.
