Abstract:

The present paper presents results of studies on the evaluation of herb layer production and the size of plant fall in four forest associations in the Kampinos National Park. In the estimate of herb layer production there was used a new method based on an analysis of density and the determination of so-called index of average individual increment for different species. In order to estimate the size of plant fall from trees and shrubs the technique of catchers has been used. There are data cited concerning certain quantitative characters of herb layer as: density, size of standing crop, fructification index, ratio of actual increment to plant material from previous years. There has been carried out also the comparison of production estimate obtained with the use of two methods. It has been indicated that the way of selection of sampling places affects seriously the estimate.
