This article presents the problem of perceiving and understanding the place of Ukraine on the political and geographical map of Europe after the Second World War – since 1945 and till the fall of communism in 1991. The author also analyses the issue of the idea and concept of East Central Europe in the thought of well-known Ukrainian intellectuals and historians, such as Borys Krupnyckyj, Mykola (Nikolas) Chubaty, Yurii (George) Shevelov, Ivan Lysiak-Rudnytsky, Roman Szporluk, and others. The aim of the article is to analyse the nature, development and instrumentalisation of the place of Ukraine in Ukrainian émigré thought, as well as the impact of various concepts of borders and divisions.
