Abstrakt:

The Tuczno commune, comprising about 250 km2, is situated in Northwest Poland (fig. 1). The estimation of natural values of this area was carried out in 2002, after few weeks of Coleoptera field survey. Beetles were collected using a broad variety of methods, including hand searching, beating and sweeping of vegetation, sieving leaf litter, and pitfall trapping. Among 654 species found, 48 were recognized as rare and endangered. On the basis of the distribution of beetle species recorded from Tuczno commune and their importance for conservation, se- ven areas were found to be particularly valuable: 1 - meanders of Płociczna River surrounded by natural deciduous forest (fig. 1, table I); 2 and 3 - smali intermediate peat bogs, located in forests E and SE of Nowa Studnica (fig. 2); 4 - ash-alder forests and alder swamps surroun- ding the stream flowing out of Krępa Lakę near Krępa Krajeńska; 5 - oak woods, beech woods and ash-alder forests S of Liptowskie Lakę; 6 - complex of smali lakes, ponds and peat bogs (in the process of being overgrown by vegetation) surrounded by alder swamps and pine forests SE of Strzaliny village; 7 - vast wet meadows and pastures intersected by a drainage system, with smali ponds and willow shrubs near Rzeczyca village. Additionally, a group of 150- 200-years-old pines near Martew village (figs. 1, 3), inhabited by the extremely rare species Nothorhina punctata (Cerambycidae), was admitted as very valuable. In generał, aquatic and semi-aquatic habitats were recognized as most valuable. In contrast, the majority of the Tuczno commune area, comprising pine forests and cultivated land has no particular values in terms of naturę conservation, with the exception of pastures in the vicinity of Rzeczyca and Tuczno. On the basis of the above results, the following actions are proposed to be undertaken: 1) areas 1 and 6 should gain a status of naturę reserves, 2) remaining areas are to be considered as ecological sites (a form of naturę conservation in Poland), 3) mid-forest lakes, ponds, peat bogs, and sedge swamps, as well as smali lakes in open field situated beyond the indicated special areas are also regarded as worth of being defined as ecological sites, 4) old, especially hollow and rotten trees should be protected. Such isolated trees are often the only old representatives of some species in the surveyed area. Apart from having unquestionable esthetic values, old trees are important for development of rare stenotopic species of saproxylic insects. For the group of old pines inhabited by Nothorhina punctata, a monument of naturę should be established. Two main ecological corridors traverse the Tuczno commune (fig. 1). In order to maintain and protect their functionality, building artificial barriers on river systems or developing exten- sive communication infrastructure must be avoided, water and soil pollution should be redu- ced, and deforestation limited. The north-eastern part of the Drawieński National Park, three naturę reserves and other valuable natural habitats are situated in the Tuczno commune. There- fore, taking into account a rapid development of regional tourist activities, any new plans of industrial enterprises to be located in this interesting area should be considered with appropria- te care and with consultation with a naturę conservation specialists. It is concluded, that a preliminary naturę survey of areas comparable to the Tuczno commune can be carried out within one year by two experienced coleopterologists. Detailed faunistic data concerning a few dozens of rare or otherwise interesting beetle species (most of them not recorded from Pomeranian Lakę District previously) are given.
