Abstract:

The purpose of this article is the presentation of new biotechnological methods that could be used in a genetical improvement of farm animals. Mainly, the techniques of in vitro fertilization and micromanipulation of embryos are described. These two techniques allow to increase the number of valuable animals, especially in the case of cattle and sheep. Besides, the micromanipulation methods make it possible to combine different zygotes or embryos and in this way create chimaeric animals and also new types or lines of mammals.
