Up to the present moment we are lacking clearly formulated justification of the group from the area of Little Poland and Upper Silesia as well as the smaller archeological cultural units recognized within its bounds. This is exemplification of a broader problem of defining archeological cultural units, bases to their hierarchization, and their role in the historical recognition. The growth of the base of information allowed verification of many views on the group from the area of Little Poland and Upper Silesia, though it still did not undermine the conviction of many researchers that this cultural formation has an integral character within the boundries proposed by Z. Durczewski (1939-1948). Taking that structural aspect into account, it seems that the only reasonable way out of the present impasse in cultural studies on the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age to assume that the basic cultural unit ought to be identified with a local settlement group which concentrated a few or more local populations. Its counterpart in microsociological categories would be a community
