Opis:

Photography (scan from a slide). Memorial stones (paliya) are set to commemorate a specific person who suddenly died. They are usually placed at the border of the village or towns. They are made of stone, on which are engraved symbols identifying the person and the signature of the local language (Gujarati here). There are some symbols (rider on a horse or a camel, shrine, a female figure, hands raised up). Hand raised up points to the tragic death of a woman. At the top are round shapes represent the sun and the moon. The photo shows eight stones, all with images of riders on horseback and with a sword in hands. It is here that night rituals take place. Below the entrance to the shrine with figure of trident (trishula). The custom of placing memorial stones is known all over the Indian subcontinent
