Abstract:

he article discusses a Roman coin of the 3rd century – a perforated antoninianus of the emperor Trebonianus Gallus, found in 2022 during excavations in a destroyed inhumation grave (No. 642) in the ceme-tery of the Wielbark culture in Weklice near Elbląg. This is the fourth Roman coin obtained at this necropolis, but the first of this denomination. Antoniniani are found in large numbers in the northern part of the Wielbark culture area, including the Elbląg Heights. Their discoveries are also recorded in other areas of Barbaricum, but rarely in graves where denarii and subaerates dominate, mostly with holes. The coin from Weklice is the second antoninianus discovered in a grave of the society of this culture, but the first with perforation. It was probably used as an amulet or a pendant.
