Membranes in denitrification of drinking water
Komitet Biotechnologii PAN ; Instytut Chemii Bioorganicznej PAN
Numerous municipal waterworks face the problem of increasing concentration of nitrates insurface and ground waters. At present, it is possible to reduce these nitrate concentrations tothe European Community, the World Health Organization and Polish permitted standards of 10- 25 mg/dm^ by mixing ground waters with the water from sources with low nitrate concentration. In the cases without such options, a reliable and cost-effective process for the separationmust be applied. Ion exchange and biological denitrification processes are offered as a solutionto the problem.
