Abstract:

Recenzowana monografia ukazuje brytyjską politykę nad Bosforem z perspektywy „nowej historii dyplomatycznej”. Jej Autor analizuje pochodzenie i status brytyjskich dyplomatów, bada język i ceremoniał przyjęty podczas uroczystych audiencji, jak też przy okazji codziennych kontaktów z osmańskimi dostojnikami oraz śledzi zmiany we wzajemnej percepcji w dobie wzrostu brytyjskich ambicji imperialnych oraz rosnącej świadomości osłabienia Porty Otomańskiej.
