Polska Akademia Nauk. Instytut Ekologii
Pages 125-139 : illustratiobs ; 24 cm ; Bibliographical references (pages 137-139) ; Abstract in Polish
Changes were followed of body weight, chemical composition and energetic value in the jackdaw (Corvus monedula) during a 35 days' development in the nest. Body weight was found to increase during this period, and drop towards its end to about 220 g. Relative water content dropped from 85.04 to 66.91%. Protein content showed a growth tendency, increasing from 6.81 to 20.15%. Fat content increased only in the first 3 days of nestlings’ life, from 4.41 to 9.02%, whereas about 10th day of their life it decreases. Energetic value of 1 g of dry weight changed from 18.97 to 25.18 kJ, and of 1 g of biomass from 3.00 to 7.64 kJ.
