Polska 1944/45-1989 : studia i materiały 11 (2013)

The article presents a case study of conflict with the management of the ‘Dom Książki’ company in early 1952. After a campaign carried on against one of its employees, he was expelled from the Party and committed suicide. Before his death he had sent many letters of intervention in which he explained the reasons of his decision. One of those letters reached Bolesław Bierut. Investigations carried out both by the Party and the Security Office (UB) exposed a network of interrelations between the members of the Party’s organisation in Szczecin, mechanisms of local power and the atmosphere in the Stalinist period company.
