Abstract:

This review article thoroughly discusses Piotr Zwierzchowski’s recent monograph on the cinematic representations of the Polish United Workers’ Party. The text examines all the fundamental issues raised in each chapter of the author’s comprehensive study. It analyses how the Bydgoszcz-based researcher described feature films and how he described documentary films. A separate analysis was devoted to the movies produced in the Polish People’s Republic and to those made after 1989. Zwierzchowski’s main theses have been meticulously described, and his fundamental statements are widely quoted. With the monograph Filmowe reprezentacje PZPR [Film Representations of the Polish United Workers’ Party], the Polish reader has received a wealth of knowledge about film representations of the party and their accompanying contexts.
