Description:

W strefie alpejskiej i subalpejskiej Karpat występują dwa podgatunki polnika śnieżnego: Microtus nivalis ul pius MILLER, 1908, w Karpatach Wschodnich i Microtus nivalis mirhanreini SCHAEFER, 1935, w Tatrach i Niżnych Tatrach. Opisany przez EHIKA (1942) Microtus radnensis EHIK jest synonimem Microtus nivalis ulipius MILLER. Oba podgatunki znane były dotąd z niewielkiej serii okazów. Zbadanie większych serii pozwoliło dokładniej uchwycić zakres ich zmienności i wykazać ich wyraźne różnice.
