Data on the tissue culture of several rare plants from the Gentianaceae are presented. The presence ofsecoiridoid glucosides in regenerated plants, callus tissue and suspension cultures has been determinedusing a TLC method. Quantitative determination of these compounds was made by TLC-densitometry. Insome cases, the biosynthesis of secoiridoides has alredy been observed in callus tissues. The regeneratedin vitro plants may be useful not only as a source of medicinal plants, but also as a simple experimentalsystem for studies on the biosynthesis of bitter glucosides.
