The study material consisted of 36 cases of various types of acquired acute and chronić liver diseases in human patients, 66 rats in which hepatic lesions were induced by means of a low-protein diet, and 10 dogs in which the portal vein was anastomosed operatively with the vena cava or its branches. The central nervous system was studied with histological and histochemical methods.
