Abstract:Moderate grazing of a mountain pasture resulted in greater plant production. In comparison with the production of a non-fertilized pasture the production increase on an intensively fertilized pasture (sheep-folds) was much higher (by 471 g/m2/season) than on a pasture fertilized only when driving sheep (by 143 g/m2/season). The sheep consume about 90% of above-ground plant production. There are very few phytophagous insects on above-ground parts of plants and their consumption is probably of little significance in pasture production.
