Abstract:The article discusses the activities of the state authorities of Second Polish Republic in the field of linguistic policies, focusing on two main areas: determining by means of regulations the binding range of use of Polish language, and also determining the official definitions (official name of the state, government bodies, local authorities) and official local names (which required adaptation to Polish). The research into legal acts containing regulations relating to linguistic issues proves the lack of complex plan and consistency of authorities — which resulted in f.e. the consolidation of legal diversity of the territory of Poland and incoherence in terminology relating to language. These problems have been absent in linguistic writings, however they fall into category of so-called external history of language.
